Bilgola to Newport
This scenic coastal path offers a pleasant, mostly paved walk through forest and along the coastline, with stunning beach views throughout.
The approximately 900-meter trail features an attractive wooden boardwalk that keeps you away from the roads that connect the two beaches.
While there are some steps to navigate, the walk is suitable for most fitness levels and makes an ideal choice for a relaxed morning or afternoon stroll.
Directions
- The trail begins at the south end of Bilgola Beach, where you'll find stairs just after the public toilets.
- The path climbs through bushland with a brief roadside section, reaching its highest point after about 160 meters – around 30 meters above sea level (point A on the map below).
- As you continue toward South Bilgola Headland, panoramic views open up: Newport Beach stretches to the south while Bilgola Beach lies to the north.
- The South Bilgola Headland Viewing Platform (point B) is an excellent spot for dolphin and whale watching, as well as for appreciating the sandstone cliffs, sheltered coves, wildflowers, and native birds like rainbow lorikeets.
- The trail maintains this elevated plateau until point C, where the descent begins.
- At the bottom of the stairs, a well-maintained wooden boardwalk weaves through native scrub and forest at sand level, eventually reaching the northern end of Newport Beach car park.
